“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise.” (Matthew 7:24)
We had a wild week of Bible adventures this past week with our Vacation Bible School! Our theme was “True North”, which took us on an imaginary trip to Alaska to learn the truths of our faith in God. Each day had a special theme and characters. At our daily opening we heard from various “buddies” (animal characters) where we learned Bible Points and verses, practiced memory work, and sang super songs.
Day 1 - When we wonder, we can trust Jesus.
John prepares the way and baptizes Jesus. (Matthew 3; 11:1-6)
Day 2 – Clawdia the Crab - When we fell alone, we can trust Jesus.
Jesus teaches about God’s love for us. (Matthew 6:25-33; 18:12-14)
Day 3 – Kody the Bear - When we feel powerless, we can trust Jesus.
A Roman officer trusts Jesus. (Matthew 8:5-13)
Day 4 – Earnest the Eagle - When we need hope, we can trust Jesus.
Jesus dies and comes back to life. (Matthew 26:47–28:8)
Day 5 – Bruce the Moose - When we need help, we can trust Jesus.
Jesus gives the Great Commission, and the Holy Spirit comes. (Matthew 28:16-20;Acts 2:1-12)
Our kitchen crew prepared the Tundra Treats: Frog Subs, Fruity Turtles, Crab Croissants, Bear Pizzas and Bear Paw Cookies, Golden Chicken Nuggets, Eagle Marshmallows, Beef Jerky and Ski Shoes! Glacier Games kept the kids moving, while the Imagination Station gave the kids opportunities to make crafts and reinforce the lessons they were learning.
It was exciting to see volunteers from the various churches and ministries taking part in the ministry, everything from registration to audio visual to clean up! About 20 volunteers helped throughout the week, and over 24 kids were registered and took part in the Bible school program.
God continues to surprise me! We know there is potential for ministry here, but it is especially encouraging when you get to see it happening right in front of your eyes! We’ve come a long way in just a few short years. Your prayers and support are key, and will be critical as we keep leaning into the future with hopes and dreams of seeing the ministry grow – and not just our churches, but also the churches we share space with. We can all grow in our own unique ways, yet come together to do even more. Like our vision statement says:
“To be a community of churches, and a church to the community.” We are living that out in powerful ways through this Vacation Bible School program. Like the kids learned, “we can trust Jesus!”
Come on Sunday and we will be sharing some highlights of the week, both with song and video!
In the name of Jesus;
Pastor Dan
