Thank You Mom

May 12, 2026

“For all the faithful women who served in days of old, to you shall thanks be given; to all, their story told. They served with strength and gladness in tasks your wisdom gave. To you their lives bore witness, proclaimed your pow’r to save. ELW Hymn #419 “For All the Faithful Women”

It’s time to remember mom this Sunday! Are you ready? It’s Mother’s Day!

I went to Minnesota a few weeks ago to help my brother with spring planting on the farm. While I was there, I stayed with my mom in the old farm house I grew up in. She’s slowed down a bit at 85 years old, but still plays the organ at church and serves on the board of the local Lutheran nursing home.

While helping my brother, my mom cooked me some of my favorite dishes and spoiled me rotten, of course. I ate almost a whole pan of apple crisp while I was there – delicious! I planned ahead for Mother’s Day, so I gave her a card before I left, since I wouldn’t be there this Sunday. I’m sure my siblings will take her out for a nice dinner. Miss you, mom. Thank you!

We all have different experiences with our mothers – both good and bad. Mothers aren’t perfect, but neither are we!

The Bible tells stories of a lot of different parents – mothers and fathers. Some were good, some were better, and some were very bad! The Bible doesn’t hide the bad stuff. In fact, there are some juicy stories of manipulative parents and rebellious kids throughout the Bible, especially in the Old Testament. These stories help us understand ourselves, and how God works through imperfect people to do His will in the world.

This Sunday we’re going to focus on some of those moms in the Bible, and also some other women who were models of faith and faithfulness in a broken world. God used them to do powerful things. We could use some heroes today, and the Bible gives these to us to learn from. It might even help reveal to us some heroes we have around us today, who we can be thankful for.

So, tune in, come in, and join us as we delve into the lives and witness of people like Miriam, Hannah, Ruth, Martha and Mary, Eunice and Lois. Let’s discover how God created women to be special, unique, and blessed. Let’s dig into the Bible, sing some hymns, and thank God for mothers, and for all the women who have made a difference in our lives for the sake of Jesus Christ.

In Christ;
Pastor Dan
