Take Away the Stone

March 23, 2026

“Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. “Take away the stone,” he said. John 11:38

Lazarus is dead. Dead-dead. Jesus approaches the tomb of His friend not with cold detachment, but with deep emotional anguish, a "groaning" in His spirit. Jesus isn’t distant from our pain, not aloof and unconcerned, he is fully aware of the agony of our loss and our fear of death.

There is something standing between us and hope, a great big rock we call death. Jesus came to remove that barrier, and thankfully it wasn’t too heavy for him! In a few weeks we will be retelling that familiar redemption story of a different tomb, and a stone that had been rolled away.

Don’t forget to experience the full Gospel story! Nowadays it’s too easy to skip from the “Hosanna!” (Palm Sunday), to “He is risen” on Easter morning, and miss the richness and power of the story of our redemption. Join us as we recall God “passing over” at the Seder dinner (Wednesday). Hear Jesus’ command to “love one another” on Maundy Thursday. Weep at Jesus’ words, “it is finished”, as he dies on the cross on Good Friday. From the high to the low, and back up to the highest – we can boldly proclaim “He is risen, indeed!” See the schedule and times below, and bring a friend!

LENTEN SERIES
Join us this Wednesday, March 25th, for a soup supper at 6:00 p.m. and a study at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This week’s topic is “Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead” in John 11:1-44.

Experience the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead as artist Paul Oman brings this dramatic event to life on canvas, layer upon layer, scene after scene. Lazarus gives a first-person account of this encounter and how it changed his life.  Music and sound effects accompany the storyline.

In Christ;
Pastor Dan
