The Faith of Shiphrah and Puah: Courage in the Shadows
Before Moses’ birth, two Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, defied Pharaoh’s order to kill newborn boys (Exodus 1). They feared God more than the king, risking their lives to protect innocent children.
Their courage reminds us that small acts of obedience can play major roles in God’s story. These women stood for life and justice long before Moses confronted Pharaoh. Their names are preserved in Scripture as examples of faithful resistance.
Ruth’s Loyalty: God at Work in Ordinary Life
Many know the book of Ruth as a love story. Yet at its core, it’s about faithfulness, loss, and redemption. Ruth, a Moabite widow, chooses to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi, saying, “Your people will be my people, and your God my God.”
Ruth’s loyalty leads her into the family line of King David and ultimately Jesus. The story shows how God works through ordinary decisions, kindness, and perseverance. Even quiet lives can have an eternal impact.
