“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Psalm 22:1a
Most of us are familiar with Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd…” But do you know Psalm 22? It was written by King David as he struggled in anguish, feeling isolated from God, and mocked by his enemies. This profound prayer of anguish mysteriously transitions into a song of absolute triumph. It contains prophetic imagery of the crucifixion, which Jesus quoted on the cross before his death, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Does that sound familiar?
The Good News is that suffering is not the end of the story. For Christians, it ties directly into the theology of the cross and the resurrection—where apparent defeat, abandonment, and death are turned into ultimate victory,salvation, and eternal life. Join us this Sunday as we dig deeper into this Messianic Psalm and unpack its secrets!
Last summer we gathered food items for the PBC Food Shelf. People responded generously, and we delivered over 250 pounds of food, helping to provide over 230 nutritious meals to people in need. We’re kicking off another drive this Sunday which will continue through the end of June. Bring your non-perishable food items – no glass – to church and let’s feed those in need in the name of Christ.
The Church council approved several special missions for us to focus on throughout the year, like we did last year.These different missions include the Food Bank, gathering Back to School items in July, holding a Job Fairs (Better Together), Christmas Angel Tree, Mission Egypt (Sellaris), and NALC Disaster Response. These are all an important part of our faith response to the needs around the world. Thank you for supporting these missions!
Don’t forget to sign up for Vacation Bible School! We need BOTH KIDS AND ADULTS! Check out the “Up North” cabin on display in the sanctuary – it’s an Alaskan adventure we’re taking starting on June 15th. We had 17 kids for our first year in 2025, let’s see if we can double or triple that this summer! Be praying for this wonderful summer ministry that we’re doing in partnership with all the other churches and Youth for Christ. Registration for kids and adult volunteers is online at https://felcwpb.com/vacation-bible-school . Let’s “Trust Jesus in a Wild World”!
In Christ;
Pastor Dan
