"Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life. Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers.” Proverbs 4:13-14
It’s back to school time! Do you remember those days? I can still remember waiting and watching for the bus to come pick us up. Or sitting in the desks, eating in the cafeteria, or dropping off my books in my locker. It seems like it was yesterday! What do you remember?
A few weeks ago, Cheryl Richter was setting up lunch in the kitchen before church and asked me if we could do something for the kids heading back to school. So I brought it to the church council and they said: Yes, let’s do it! We reached out to Dave Killian from Youth for Christ and he gave us helpful information for what is needed and requirements. He shared:
Conniston Middle School is in need of the following items to be donated so they can hand them out to students in need. The need is ASAP but no exact deadline as they get dispersed throughout the school year.
Mesh Backpacks (not clear, fabric), GlueSticks, Notebooks with lined paper, Pencil Pouches
Let’s start filling up some boxes with these items the next few weeks! This is a wonderful local mission for the kids, much like our Food Drive has been this summer that has brought in 156 pounds of food, helping serve 130 meals to those in need.
These mission projects bring us back to our vision statement…
“We are a community of churches and a church to the community.”
And our mission statement…
To witness, share and live the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ in this community and in the world by service, education, fellowship and worship.
Let’s also celebrate mission as we welcome our New Members this Sunday: Dylan Bauer, Franklin Eddie, Ted Jones,Jose Oliveras, Kay Taylor, Christine Webb. As they join our church community, remember when you joined or when others in your family joined the church, and what it felt like or meant to them.
Take time to greet them this Sunday and even after that, remind them your name, too! That will help them feel welcome and a part of God’s mission and vision here at First Evangelical and Holy Cross churches!
In Christ;
Pastor Dan
