When I wrote to you two weeks ago, I shared how I was traveling to Minnesota for a week of camp with a guest artist and Bible teacher, Paul Oman. We had a wonderful time reconnecting with familiar faces and digging into God’s Word. Pastor Oman did not disappoint! His teaching times were exciting and brought the Bible stories to life in new and refreshing ways. Here’s a picture of some of the work he did with us:
Pastor Oman travels all over the U.S. (and beyond!) painting and leading churches in special teaching lessons with his art. Often he paints during a church service, with a mix of readings, special music, preaching, and hymns. Sometimes he narrates, teaching and telling the story while he paints right in front of your eyes. I’m looking into the possibility of having him come and paint for us sometime soon.

Here is a picture he painted for us of the Transfiguration – including special paint with a black light that made Jesus glow!
Art is a huge part of the life of the church – stained-glass windows, icons, sculptures – along with preaching, music, and theater – all ways that God gives us to convey the Good News of the Gospel. Enjoy the richness of the arts as you worship this Sunday!
