FIRST WORD 5.31.24 “I Am Yours”

May 31, 2024

“I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts.” Psalm 119:94 (NRSV)

Early on, Martin Luther was tormented by his inability to feel that he was accepted by God. His closest friend, Staupitz taught him to rely on Christ, quoting Psalm 119:94, “I am yours; save me.” In times of darkness, when life seems so bleak, we can know one thing by faith – I am the Lord’s and He wills that I be saved through Christ alone.

When I first felt the call to ministry, I did not feel worthy. How could I – a poor, miserable, wretched sinner – stand before all of you and speak for God? What can I say to you, especially to church members who might even know the Bible better than I?

I’ve learned over the years that it really isn’t about me. If it were, we’d all be in trouble! It is about God, and what God can and will do through you and me. It isn’t about me preaching to you what I think is right, but what God has led me to deliver to you. At that point it is in God’s hands, and I need to trust that God will do the rest.

This Sunday we have a special guest preacher, the Rev. Alan Peacock, Dean of the Sonshine Mission District of the North American Lutheran Church. He is a pastor at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, FL and will be representing the larger church, in formally installing me as your pastor! Please be ready to welcome him!

I’m honored to be your pastor! I look forward to discovering how God will use us to further his purposes in the West Palm Beach area and beyond – because it isn’t all about me, or even you, it is all about God! With God there is nothing we cannot do. Let’s pray about how we can work together for the sake of the Gospel, in new and exciting ways, saying: “I am yours, Lord. Save me!”

In Christ;
Pastor Dan
